Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide close-up animal experiences that inspire connections to wildlife and action toward conservation in our region and around the world. Our vision is a world where all living things thrive together.

About This Cause

The Lake Superior Zoo is celebrating 100 years in 2023! We are the 19th oldest zoo in the United States and recently received our renewed accreditation by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums. AZA Accreditation is a symbol of gold standard animal care and well-being, as only 10% of zoological facilities in the US have received this prestigious recognition. The LSZ welcomes thousands of guests of all ages year-round on our 16 acres of greenspace adjacent to the St. Louis River Estuary. We are home to over 300 animals comprised of 140 species, many of which who were rescued and could not survive in the wild. Our values of community, DEAI (diversity, equity, accessibility, inclusion), innovation, safety, and stewardship guide every decision we make here at the Zoo. We strive to be a place of gathering for all people to connect with wildlife, learn about animals, and take action for conservation. Help ensure that your zoo remains a vital and relevant community resource by making a tax-deductible donation to the Lake Superior Zoo today.
