Mission Statement
Since 1974 the Minneapolis American Indian Center (MAIC) has provided services to a large urban Native American community. MAIC’s mission is to provide excellent services that help meet the needs of the American Indian community within a foundation of cultural values.
About This Cause
Today, the Minneapolis American Indian Center provides services youth, families and elders through its programs including: • The Ginew/Golden Eagle is a year-round after school program for 110 low-income Native American youth that improves school performance, increases cultural identity and provides support and resources to families. • Indian Child Welfare Program is recognized nationally program that provides Court Monitors and Tribal Liaisons and last year they documented over 300 court appearances representing the interests of 27 out-of-state tribes. • Indigenous Women’s Life Net serves women and their children impacted by domestic, sexual violence and focuses on homelessness. It provides education and groups, a housing database, and a network of coordinated care resources. • Prevention through Cultural Awareness Program provides substance abuse prevention activities for 30 youth and their families and is open to community members and former Circle of Generations clients. The program has weekly Dakota and Ojibwe Language Tables. • Seniors Health and Wellness Program offers transportation services, congregate dining as well as social or recreational activities and access to health & wellness activities. • Two Rivers Gallery has provided Native American art exhibits in the past. It is re-opening to showcase local Native American artists, and will provide a workspace for local artists’ use in early 2015. • Workforce Investment Program that provides services to unemployed adults in 70 Minnesota counties. The program helps clients overcome multiple barriers to employment and provides employment training and job placement.
