Mission Statement

CLUES was founded in 1981 by Latinos for Latinos who shared a vision for improving the quality of life of the Latino population in Minnesota, as well as a commitment to community building. Today, CLUES is Minnesota’s largest Latino agency. Our mission is to advance social and economic equity and wellbeing for Latinos by building upon our strengths and cultures, uplifting our community, and enabling leadership for systemic change. We do this by focusing our efforts in the areas of Health and Family Well-being, Economic Prosperity, Educational Achievement, and Civic and Cultural Engagement, our programs are designed to empower Latinos and immigrants by meeting them where they are, harnessing their strengths, and honing their skills.

About This Cause

We strive to provide programs and services holistically and with a family-centric focus. Through collaboration with other non-profits, government, and the private sector, we are able to build opportunity bridges and help a greater number of families address their needs. These partnerships enable us to support and complement each others work, deliver more effective programs, collect better data, and advance creative/ promising strategies that strengthen our community. Current areas of impact include: Health and Family Wellbeing: The health and wellbeing of our clients is linked to other aspects of social and community development. Our health services focus on prevention and health equity. Our Behavioral Health Programs provide community education, assessment, intervention, therapy and support groups. Our Family Wellbeing Programs focus on meeting families where they are and building on their strengths. This is accomplished through parenting classes, one-on-one counseling, in-home assessments and therapy, education, prevention and support groups for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, as well as comprehensive services for elders and their care givers. Today, our community health navigators promote equal access to health care services and insurance, healthy nutrition, tobacco use cessation, cancer screenings, and diabetes prevention, some of the most pressing concerns for Latinos. Educational Achievement: Parents’ level of educational attainment – particularly postsecondary education – is a strong predictor of economic mobility. Our strategic direction launches new opportunities to expand our services and partnerships in order to provide better education and skill development foundations for dual language learner children, youth, and immigrant families. Our educational achievement efforts will also expand on youth mentorship and academic achievement programs and education that includes skill development linked to high-demand jobs. Through our multipronged family services, we will continue to help improve youth and parents’ understanding of middle and high school navigation and college admission methods of financing. Economic Prosperity: Our services focus on reducing poverty and increasing economic opportunities and capacity for adults and families to obtain financial prosperity. Under our Financial Opportunity Center (FOC) model, families receive a coordinated set of services including: financial coaching and education, employment services, skills training, and improved access to public benefits. These include skill development linked to high-demand jobs, employment placement and retention services, English Language Learning (ELL), financial education, access to tax credits, citizenship, and asset and credit-building ladders. Our new strategic direction will support immigrant parents and youth to improve job skills and increase their potential to earn income that lifts them out of poverty. Cultural and Civic Engagement: Through collaboration and partnerships with others we strive to build social and cultural capital, while lifting the voices of Minnesota’s Latino community. We encourage our clients to be engaged in areas and issues that matter to them and their families. Going forward, our work will be expanded through leadership and empowerment programs that engage families and youth. We will partner with others to address inequities and opportunities for Latino families to be healthier, prosperous, and engaged. We will leverage our services by fostering or joining coalitions, supporting and advancing existing initiatives, and sponsoring community conversations that voice our own community narrative.
