Mission Statement
Vail Communities is a trusted and unique community resource that works with adults living with severe mental illnesses. Founded in 1981, Vail Communities is named after the prominent Minnesota mental health pioneer, Dr. David Vail, and our philosophy of care is based on the Clubhouse Model of recovery. Vail Communities has many different services to help support people in their recovery journey, including Targeted Case Management, three Clubhouse locations, Housing, Health Equity support, and Employment services.
About This Cause
Vail Communities is named after Dr. David Vail, a national pioneer in promoting the humanitarian treatment of people with mental illnesses in community-based settings. Who we are: Vail Place (dba Vail Communities) is a Minnesota nonprofit (501(c)(3)) that helps people with serious mental illnesses (our “members”) get back on their feet by providing connections to essential services, supports, resources, and safe relationships. We provide: PURPOSE, through shared work DIRECTION, through employment, housing, wellness, and social programs HOPE, by reconnecting members with community Individuals can reach us at our multiple Twin City locations and be supported in their own community or residence. Who We Serve: People living with long-term, serious mental illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depression Where We Are: Minneapolis Uptown Clubhouse (36th & Hennepin – providing services in SW Minneapolis and surrounding area) Hopkins Downtown Clubhouse (9th Avenue off Main St.- providing services for NW suburbs) Ramsey County Clubhouse (Dale and University serving the Saint Paul Rondo neighborhood) How We Serve the Broader Community: By saving lives and dollars: - We help people help themselves and contribute to the community, reducing costly interventions: hospitalization, homelessness, incarceration, police and other public resources - We help each person for less than $6/day – a psychiatric hospitalization runs about $2,600/day/person - We help restore broken relationships and build healthy ones . . . within families, with friends, and with the broader community
