The Mission of the United Way of Hastings is to be a force for attracting diverse resources and building dynamic partnerships to improve the lives of people in our community.
About This Cause
United Way of Hastings works to build partnerships to improve the lives of people in our community. It takes everyone in the community working together to reach our goals. Here are our program and how they impact our community Community in Schools (CIS): This program focuses on surrounding students with a supportive community, empowering them to stay in school and achieve their full potential. During the 2023/24 school year, CIS managed a caseload of 111 students. The program includes service-learning projects, providing basic needs closets, social and emotional support groups, homework support groups, and a mentoring program. These efforts help students overcome barriers to success, fostering both academic and personal growth. Food 4 Kids: This initiative provides weekend meal bags to students in the Hastings school district who have been identified by school staff as needing extra food over the weekends. Currently, we serve 200 bags per week, distributed confidentially to ensure the dignity of each student. This program is crucial for addressing food insecurity among children, allowing them to focus better in school and promoting overall well-being. Helping Kids Succeed – The Hastings Way: This initiative aims to build a support system comprising at least five significant adults for each youth. These adults form a "cone of caring," providing the necessary support for children to thrive. By fostering strong, supportive relationships, we help young people develop resilience, confidence, and the skills needed for success.One of our key success stories involves our educational programs, where we've seen significant improvements in student performance and graduation rates. For example, students who participate in our after-school tutoring and mentorship programs have shown a marked increase in their grades and standardized test scores. Similarly, our health initiatives have led to better access to healthcare and improved wellness among community members. These successes are not just statistical achievements but represent real, positive changes in the lives of the people we serve by continuously monitoring our impact and remaining committed to our goals, we ensure that our efforts lead to meaningful and lasting change in our community. United Way of Hastings is committed to building partnerships that enhance the quality of life for people in our community.
