Mission Statement

Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers are guardians ad litem appointed by the court to represent the best interests of abused and neglected children during court proceedings.

About This Cause

CASA Minnesota (CASA MN) supplements the recruitment, training and retention of volunteer Guardians ad Litem in the Minnesota GAL programs. It is our organization's goal to support volunteer advocacy for abused and neglected children in our courts. Our mission is as follows: To support and promote court-appointed volunteer advocates to ensure every abused and neglected child in Minnesota has a safe, stable and permanent family. The organization has provided continuing education for volunteers, helps with recruitment of volunteers, and offers diversity training to staff and volunteers. Our organization is the state’s liaison to the National CASA Association and it is in the process of developing technical assistance to local programs on behalf of National CASA. We believe that every abused and neglected child in Minnesota court proceedings should have a volunteer advocate working for their best interests. In pursuit of this goal, we do the following: • Assist in the recruitment and retention of Minnesota volunteer guardians ad litem • Provide initial and continuing education and support to Minnesota volunteer guardians ad litem • Increase public awareness about child welfare and guardians ad litem • Provide a network for communication among Minnesota volunteer guardians ad litem • Advocate for legislative change, public policies and best practices that enhance the quality of advocacy and care for abused and neglected children CASA Minnesota supports the Guardian ad Litem programs established in various Minnesota judicial districts (currently, the 2nd and 4th Judicial Districts).
