Mission Statement
Access Press exists to promote the social inclusion and legal rights of individuals with disabilities by providing a forum for news, features, opinion, and conversation to benefit individuals who are often invisible and marginalized in mainstream society.
About This Cause
Our organization focuses on basic needs and activities of daily living, fundamental rights for independent living, health issues, specialized technology for education and employment. Leading up to and during the legislative session, Access Press focuses on tracking issues and changing public policy that is critical to the disability community. The publication features interviews with the people involved in shaping public policy, politicians, lobbyists and self-advocates as well as stories by the people who will be affected by changing policies. We also promote the civil and legal rights of people with disabilities by providing a forum for the voices of people across Minnesota who are often unheard in mainstream society. We stimulate and galvanize alliances in the community and provide important news coverage for all. Our publication interlinks sub-communities and brings issues to the attention of others who share similar concerns. This has led to an increase in peoples’ involvement in community affairs and fostered alliances among diverse groups struggling for similar needs and freedoms. Access Press’ comprehensive coverage has influenced and contributed to important policy changes that have directly benefited people with disabilities.
