Mission Statement
Redeemer Center for Life is a community development organization located in the Harrison neighborhood, we work to answer resident’s call for job growth, attainable housing, and youth development. As a place-based organization, we celebrate and reinforce the diversity of Minneapolis’ Northside through social action and investment in its people, ideas, and enterprises. Community engagement remains at the core of our organizational culture and the primary source of RCFL’s vision, strategy and evolution. Our mission is to advance racial justice and equity by investing in the strengths, capacity, and resilience of individuals and families in the Harrison Neighborhood.
About This Cause
At RCFL, our business is the human spirit. RCFL provides a range of year-round youth programs, with creative, civic and leadership development. We operate 26 units of attainable rental housing, and provide support ranging from Housing in Transition programs to working with families to build capacity for homeownership. We engage in local initiatives for small business and economic development, from developing and leasing commercial space to incubating start-up enterprises. We own and operate Venture North Bike Walk Coffee, the only professional bicycle shop currently serving North Minneapolis. We host a free community Health Commons in partnership with Fairview and the University of Minnesota-Medical Center to provide nurse health consultations, health education, physical activity classes, massage, healing touch services and other resources and referrals. We operate an array of community gathering spaces including The Living Room, Venture North, an Urban Farm, outdoor Bread and Pizza Oven and summer green space. Our year-round approach of social, creative, and athletic activity maintains strong local cohesion and provides a foundation of ongoing community conversation which shapes our organization. Redeemer Center for Life maintains a strong support relationship with a regional network of faith partners, led by Redeemer Lutheran Church, which has been part of the Harrison neighborhood of North Minneapolis for over 100 years. While our work provides a valuable channel for our range of faith partners to put faith into action, Redeemer Center for Life is not a religious organization. RCFL serves, includes and is shaped by the entire community, regardless of cultural background or religious affiliation. Both Redeemer Center for Life and Redeemer Lutheran prioritize a proud African-American identity as an essential element of achieving racial justice in North Minneapolis, and work toward social equity which includes all cultural backgrounds, new traditions, and all gender, sexual and individual identities.
