About This Cause
Minnesota Recovery Connection (MRC) works to ensure that all who seek it have access to the support, care and resources they need to achieve long-term recovery from substance use disorder. We envision a recovery-oriented society. A society where everyone understands that substance use disorder is a medical condition and people do recover. A society where choosing recovery means rejecting shame, stigma and discrimination. A society where people in recovery live life fully. MRC is Minnesota’s first Recovery Community Organization (RCO) and a leading provider of wraparound, community-based peer recovery support services and health programming that address substance use disorders (SUD). We also deliver professional training, public education and advocacy services to establish a fully recovery-oriented continuum of healthcare and human service systems. MRC fills gaps in these systems, ensuring that support, resources and opportunities are available to all who seek long-term recovery from the chronic disease of SUD. MRC's peer recovery support model is person-centered, evidence-based, and predicated on removing barriers to accessing health and wellness resources, as well as other essential social systems such as housing, education and employment. All of our support services are free to anyone in need, no matter where they are in their recovery journey and regardless of insurance status. We honor and celebrate all pathways of recovery, including harm reduction. MRC’s Peer Recovery Specialists (Coaches) provide non-clinical guidance, mentoring and assistance in changing behavioral health patterns, stabilizing mental health and improving physical wellbeing. Our Peer Recovery Coaches have lived experience of both SUD and recovery, allowing them to work one-to-one with participants in a context that is nonhierarchical, promotes self-empowerment and self-efficacy, and is tailored to each individual’s unique background and needs.
