Mission Statement
Our mission is to use multimedia and the performing arts as a platform to educate youth on the important social and academic lessons vital to their growth.
About This Cause
BYTM/WayOut Kids is a local, non-profit organization that offers a ‘way out’ for under-served youth. Through music, multimedia and the performing arts, we provide young people with positive influences and educational resources on health, education and the environment. For more than ten years WayOut Kids has delivered music and multimedia programs in ways that have become recognizable community traditions such as: • Rodney Raccoon — currently exists as a large, friendly mascot that educates children pre-k -2nd grades through CDs, DVDs & community outreach programs in the Pacific Northwest. Each school year Rodney Raccoon is contracted to deliver fun educational workshops to children in their school settings, and as a result has developed a strong following with children, educators, and parents. • Annual Back-to-School Drive (Way Out Fun Day)— WayOut partners with World Vision and Metro Parks to bring youth and families in the community a day of important resources, fun activities, performances, movies and best of all- free back-to-school supplies! • Annual Holiday food and gift baskets— each year WayOut partners with Eastside Community Church, World Vision, The Sequoia Foundation and several community organizations to provide food baskets and gifts to the many underprivileged families that find their resources to be too scarce to fully enjoy the holiday season. • Gang Prevention Programs— in collaboration with Safe Streets and the Community Counseling Institute we use Hip- Hop, a double-edged sword of positive and negative influence in young people’s lives, and formulate it into a constructive tool for social and political change and youth empowerment. • The Go Green Games - The Go Green Games is a youth engagement and awareness event. Our goal is to educate youth about how their behaviors and activities impact the environment. This outdoor enviro-ed event is great for the entire family and will have its share of fun and entertainment with, games, music, mascots and our very own Rodney Raccoon. These programs exemplify the many facets of our community and the collaborations needed to address the issues as a whole.
