SURVIVORS AND ADVOCATES FOR EMPOWERMENT SAFE INC

WASHINGTON, District of Columbia, 20044 United States

Mission Statement

DC SAFE (Survivors and Advocates for Empowerment) ensures the safety and self-determination for survivors of domestic violence in the Washington, DC area through emergency services, court advocacy and system reform.

About This Cause

DC SAFE is the only 24/7 crisis intervention agency for domestic violence in the District of Columbia. DC SAFE fills a unique and critical gap in the District of Columbia by providing survivors of domestic violence with crisis intervention services, supportive advocacy, and immediate tangible resources such as access to safe housing 24-hours a day. DC SAFE accomplishes this through providing access to victims’ rights information, tangible resources, and access to civil and legal referrals and systems; providing stabilizing and advocacy services for victims of intimate partner violence; and providing and coordinating enhanced specialized services for victims, with a special focus on victims who are at high-risk for future violence or homicide. DC SAFE began as part of the DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence in 1997 with one advocate providing court-based advocacy services and became an independent organization in 2006. DC SAFE provides services for approximately 8,000 survivors annually. For the past decade, DC SAFE has been a leading organization in the District of Columbia providing services for victims of domestic violence and intimate partner violence.
