Mission Statement
We engage volunteers to clean their neighborhoods, waterways, and shorelines as a way to raise awareness about marine debris and encourage people to reduce their reliance on single-use disposable plastics
About This Cause
We create and facilitate volunteer opportunities that not only remove marine debris but provide a hands-on opportunity to learn about the problem. Our website, www.volunteercleanup.oprg is a free community resource, connecting volunteers to local cleanups by providing an aggregated listing of cleanups in the community, led our network of community partners. Any host can post a cleanup and reach our database of volunteers, and any volunteer can search by zip code to find cleanups. Volunteers can also signup to receive our weekly email notification of upcoming cleanups within a 15-mile radius of where they live. We offer multiple cleanup events and volunteer opportunities every weekend! We also recruit and train Site Captains to lead cleanups in their own neighborhoods to scale our reach and impact. We have a successful and popular Corporate Day of Service Shoreline Cleanup + Teambuilding program for private cleanups by request. https://www.volunteercleanup.org/corporate_days_of_service We are the regional coordinators for International Coastal Cleanup Day in Miami-Dade, organing the county's participation in this global event by organizing 45 individual cleanups, and engaging 3,000 volunteers for 1 day of service. Impact: Nearly 8,000 registered volunteers, 5,000+ local volunteers receive our weekly e-blast of upcoming cleanups Facilitating, on average, 250 cleanups annually, and 50,000 lbs of debris, and 150,000 volunteer hours to date.
