Mission Statement
Hope Haven of Cass County Domestic and Sexual Violence Program exists to provide safe shelter, concentrated supportive services, community resources, and education to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and with public outreach, seeks to reduce the tolerance and frequency of domestic and sexual violence in our community.
About This Cause
Hope Haven is the result of a “grass roots” effort by the Harrisonville Business and Professional Women’s Club in early 1991. Bolstered by community support, we raised funds and acquired donated land. The Cass County Career Center Building and Trades Program built a shelter for battered women. Since we opened our doors in 1995, we have served more than 15,800 domestic (DV) and sexual violence (SV) survivors and their families. Cass County’s significant population growth has led to an increase in demand for DV and SV programs, shelter, and community services. Hope Haven has experienced a 64% growth in shelter and services from 2008 to 2014 and an 87.6% increase in hotline calls from 2010 to 2014, reflecting increasing community service needs. As these needs have expanded, our ability to provide assistance beyond “shelter doors” has also grown. From 1995 through 1997 two part-time employees and numerous volunteers provided 24/7 shelter services. Since 2002 the number of survivors we served steadily increased, both inside and outside the shelter premises. We have added staff and modified staff duties to provide focus for and better-support our services. We continue to seek additional programs to serve Cass County residents, such as sexual assault services, Guardian Program, and dating violence awareness for middle and high school students. In July 2009, we became a “dual” DV and SV program through the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence (MCADSV). We continue to expand our capabilities and expertise to meet the ever-increasing program and service needs of DV and SV survivors and their families. Today Hope Haven remains the sole provider of DV and SV services in Cass County Missouri. Our dual program provides a wide range of services, including safe shelter, 24/7 crisis hotline response and face-to-face crisis intervention, case management, court advocacy, child advocacy, and facilitated support groups for both DV and SV survivors, children, and parents. The program provides emergency financial assistance, transportation, information and referrals, dating violence awareness training, and community outreach.
