Mission Statement
The Oakland Public Education Fund leads the development and investment of community resources in Oakland public schools so that all students can learn, grow, and thrive. We put the right tools in students’ hands to give all kids the excellent education they deserve. We support all Oakland public schools with a focus on those furthest from opportunity, because kids who come to school with less need more.
About This Cause
Since our founding in 2003, the Oakland Ed Fund has raised over $200M for Oakland kids, placed 10,000 volunteers in local Oakland public school classrooms, and fiscally sponsored more than 150 education-related projects. Projects commonly supported by our work include providing: 1. Access to school-based enrichment activities that create well-rounded school communities including: + Visual, performing, musical, and other arts + Leadership learning & development + Sports programs + Student driven clubs (chess, girls empowerment, and more) + Robust after-school programs + Outdoor, environmental education (including overnight wilderness field trips) 2. Personalized academic interventions & curriculum including: + Science programs + Blended learning + Technology-based activities + Engagement for families and broader community + College and career access for students The Oakland Public Education Fund also: + Serves as 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor for under-resourced schools that don’t have a PTAs and mission aligned community programs supporting Oakland families, students, and schools. + Champions Oakland Unified School District schools through community outreach and campaigns celebrating the accomplishments of Oakland students, educators, and schools. + Runs city-wide partnership projects that bring together educators, corporations, public figures, families, and students.
