Mission Statement
To preserve Kansas City's oldest historic theater as a premier performance venue, we commit to maintain our buildings heritage, diversify our program and entertainment offerings, and be an enthusiastic participant in the continuing revitalization of downtown Kansas City.
About This Cause
The Folly is Kansas City's only remaining 19th century theater, which Sir James Galway once described as "Kansas City's Carnegie Hall." This intimate, ornate performance hall seats 1,072 patrons, and hosts a widely diverse array of performing arts from dance, to choral and instrumental musical performances, to comedy, to lectures and to plays. About one-third of the roughly 150 performances held each year are presented by the Folly, including performances on its Jazz Series, Americana Series, and Kids' Series programs. The remaining two-thirds of the performances are presented by outside organizations which rent the theater. Annual presenters include the Harriman-Jewel Fine Arts Series, Kansas City Friends of Chamber Music, Heartland Men's Chorus, Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey, UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance, and Kansas City Women's Chorus, among many others.
