Mission Statement

Alpha Phi Omega is a national coeducational service organization founded on the principles of Leadership, Friendship and Service. It provides its members the opportunity to develop leadership skills as they volunteer on their campus, in their community, to the nation, and to the organization. With more than 400,000 members on over 360 campuses, Alpha Phi Omega continues to provide more service on more campuses than any other collegiate service organization.

About This Cause

On college campuses across the country, there is a great need for programming that empowers ethical servant leaders who then band together to create a ripple effect on their campuses and communities. These are the very principles reflected in Alpha Phi Omega's programs. As a national, co-ed fraternal organization, Alpha Phi Omega provides a variety of fellowship activities ranging from location chapter events to national conventions. Lasting friendships and long-term networking opportunities are made, and a sense of community is fostered. APO goes far beyond just hanging out with new friends, however - service is job one. Local chapters determine their own programs and projects and then create, implement and follow through on their plans. Such hands-on experiences change APO members forever by opening their eyes to the needs around them while empowering them to work together to meet those needs. This empowerment remains with Alpha Phi Omega members as they move out into the "real world" and take on new challenges as leaders. From local PTO/PTA volunteers to ambassadors, astronauts, and even Presidents of the United States, many alumni have credited their leadership start to APO. More than 400,000 members have joined Alpha Phi Omega since its founding by Frank Reed Horton in 1925 at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. Today there are active chapters on over 360 campuses with more than 25,000 student members. The PURPOSE of Alpha Phi Omega is to assemble college students in a national service fraternity in the fellowship of principles derived from the Scout Oath and Law of the Boy Scouts of America; to develop leadership, to promote friendship and to provide service to humanity; and to further the freedom that is our national, educational and intellectual heritage. It is the VISION of Alpha Phi Omega to be recognized as the premier service-based leadership development organization. It is the MISSION of Alpha Phi Omega to prepare campus and community leaders through service. The VALUES of Alpha Phi Omega are the develop leadership, promote friendship and provide service. The OBJECTIVES of Alpha Phi Omega are Share, Grow, Improve and Invest.
