Mission Statement

Prime Ability is dedicated to empowering BIPOC youth by harnessing the transformative power of cycling. Our mission is to guide young individuals away from violence and towards realizing their prime potential. Through authentic learning experiences rooted in cycling, we cultivate character, self-esteem, and a strong sense of identity. We believe that by providing a safe and supportive environment, we can inspire positive change. Our program utilizes cycling as a medium to teach vital life skills, instill values of discipline and resilience, and foster a deep sense of self-worth. By engaging BIPOC youth in the world of cycling, we enable them to navigate challenges with confidence and embrace their unique capabilities. Prime Ability is committed to steering young lives away from the destructive path of violence and towards a future defined by strength, determination, and achievement. Through the power of cycling, we empower BIPOC youth to embark on a journey of self-discovery, unlocking their true potential and paving the way for a brighter future. Why We Ride: At Prime Ability, we pedal together towards a brighter future, where character, self-esteem, and life lessons gained from cycling enrich the lives of our participants and the communities they serve.

About This Cause

Prime Ability Youth Cycling is deeply committed to fostering positive change in the community, particularly for Black, Brown, and low-income students. The unique focus on creating a cycling team of color is particularly impactful in a sport that has historically lacked diversity. By actively engaging students of color in Washington, DC, Prime Ability is breaking down barriers and offering opportunities for underrepresented communities to participate in the exhilarating world of cycling. The program recognizes the importance of representation in sports, aiming to inspire more students of color to take up cycling and showcase their talents on the trails. In addition to promoting physical activity and a love for cycling, Prime Ability is committed to closing the disparities that exist in sports participation. By providing access to cycling for students of color who may not have had the opportunity otherwise, the program is working towards creating a more inclusive and equitable sporting community in the nation's capital. The collaboration with NICA, a prominent organization dedicated to the development of high school mountain biking, adds a layer of legitimacy and structure to Prime Ability's efforts. As the team continues to grow and make its mark on the youth cycling scene, it serves as a beacon for other communities seeking to address similar disparities in sports.
