About This Cause
Mercy Street exists to cultivate mutually-transforming relationships with inner-city youth through Christian mentorship. Our vision is to empower the next generation of Christian leaders to transform their communities. We empower the next generation of Christian leaders through Sports, Mentoring, and our Leadership Institute. These programs work together to develop emerging leaders who will transform their community. Youth who participate in our programs break generational cycles of poverty and low historic educational attainment. Our future leaders beat the odds around them by graduating high school at a 92% rate, having opportunities for upward economic mobility, and experiencing overall better socio-emotional health. When our athletes, mentees, and leadership interns are successful academically, pass grade levels, graduate on time and are engaged in their community, all of West Dallas reaps the benefit of a stronger community. In addition, when the youth of West Dallas are academically successful, upwardly mobile economically, and equipped as servant leaders, the entire city of Dallas and anywhere our youth are - is a better place to live. Anecdotally school administrators, teachers and parents consistently attest to the change they see in their youth as they engage and are given opportunities to be developed into leaders at Mercy Street. With an entire staff, individual mentors, sports teams, coaches, internships and high Leadership Institute expectations, the youth in our programs rise to the challenge of changing their environments for the better because we believe that they can. Though the impact of the global pandemic will likely be felt for years to come, we desire to have a positive and lasting impact on the spiritual, physical, mental, and socio-emotional health of the youth we serve for generations to come.
