Mission Statement

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, Minnesota (CAIR-MN) is the state’s only nonprofit, grassroots civil rights and legal advocacy organization serving Muslims and those perceived to be Muslim (including Sikhs, Hindus, Arab Christians, and others). CAIR-MN’s mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, protect civil liberties, and empower American Muslims. CAIR-MN strives for social equity and racial justice, ensuring that Minnesotans have fair and equal access and rights under the law.

About This Cause

Since its advent in 2007, CAIR-MN has worked tirelessly to educate and empower the community, striving for racial justice, and helping to create a diverse and inclusive community. Through its four focus areas of civil rights advocacy, media justice, civic engagement and diversity trainings, CAIR-MN seeks to empower the American Muslim community and encourage their participation in political and social conversations while also building bridges of understanding with the greater Minnesota community. The goals of CAIR-MN are to: • Be the leading civil rights advocacy and legal services organization for Muslims in Minnesota, protecting against racial, ethnic, and religious discrimination and injustice. • Ensure fair, balanced, and accurate portrayal of Islam and Muslims in the Minnesota media. • Be the primary, trusted resource for education on diversity issues concerning Muslims. • Mobilize communities and leaders to create systems change. • Build the organizational infrastructure and human capital to sustain our mission and growth.
