About This Cause
Science Mentors 1:1 is an organization that develops competency and self-esteem in under-represented high school students through the application of the scientific method to environmental issues. The program does this through the relationship with an adult mentor who uses the application of the scientific method to try to solve environmental issues. How the Program Works Match adult with high school student for research and field work Some students volunteer to mentor a fifth grade student to help him/her prepare for an elementary science fair. Student interviews an expert on the problem he/she is researching Applicable field trips are provided for groups of participants ScienceMentors celebrates the completion of all projects at a Spring Fair (pre-COVID) Internships and Summer Science Workshops are pursued Coaching support is offered for the students ready to pursue higher education Opportunities for volunteer work in the community are provided
