About This Cause
50+ million people in the world are enslaved. 1 in 4 are kids. Human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal industry in the world. It generates $236 billion annually. Why is this happening? In a word, economics. Slavery is cost-effective, satisfying consumer demand for low-priced goods and services. And it's profitable. Exploiters earn up to 1000x profit on a sex worker. This leads to recruiting and coercing low-cost laborers or slaves to deliver goods and services at lower prices and higher volume. This labor is performed by the most economically desperate, those who are at high risk of exploitation. With 150+ million orphans and 700+ million people in poverty, this creates fertile ground for exploitation. Many great organizations are making significant strides to help, but many of them are relatively unknown, unseen, and underfunded. Lack of time, knowledge, and materials to build donor relationships and fundraise are key constraints that slow organizational growth and reach.
