Mission Statement

We promote Academic Excellence in urban ZIP codes by guiding a small number of high-achieving public school students towards America’s Best Colleges. These students, for the most part, have no other “trusted friends and guides” from similar low-income backgrounds who now are alumni of America’s most selective universities. We acknowledge, affirm, and activate the academic strengths of students attending public schools in underserved communities. We have an award-winning "Gather-Share-Connect-Build" strategy that offers students and families a no-cost community-based resource that complements the efforts of others who believe that a child's ZIP code should not limit the colleges available to her or him. We administer the Call to Action and the Safiya and Daren Miller No Boundaries scholarship programs. Recipients of these awards include current students at/graduates from Harvard, the US Military Academy at West Point, Morehouse College, the University of Notre Dame, and the University of South Florida. Since 2021, we have "increased awareness in urban ZIP codes about Quantum Computing" through partnerships, including with The Coding School and Alamo Colleges District in San Antonio. We also offer Supervised Experiential Learning Opportunities to high school and college students.

About This Cause

The MIMS Institute Fellows, Inc. was founded in 2001 by Jason Mims as a public charity that promotes academic excellence. The 501 c (3) charity strives to encourage public school students in urban ZIP codes to demonstrate academic excellence during high school in order for them to take part in the application process that allows them to attend Tier One Universities and other nationwide amazing colleges. The MIMS Institute focuses on promoting academic excellence with the assistance of those who have found success with the help of the organization previously. As the institute grows, Mr. Jason Mims is continuously assisting students in focusing on academic excellence, helping them to achieve their goals with a valuable education from top universities. The organization has assisted more than two hundred students to reach this goal in getting them into their dream university. MIMS Institute currently employs four executive members who are extremely hands-on and involved with the processes and operations of the organization. Mr. Mims and Mrs. Ortiz are especially involved in daily activities pertaining to the students’ journeys. These two executives take part in campus visits through the nation to expose these students to the variety of opportunities. The organization seeks to also provide vast opportunities to practice kindness with the students, as well as with their families. It is important to the institution to partake in fellowships for academic excellence to offer time, talent, training, and treasure in order to gain trust from the students throughout the process and inform them properly of what this process takes. In order to create awareness and encourage the students from specific urban ZIP codes to participate in the journey to academic excellence that the MIMS Institute promotes, the organization must maintain the resources and funds in order to provide academic fellowships. With consistent effort, Mr. Mims strives to provide these fellowships for these students and is in need of assistance to make these efforts work. The MIMS institute is in need of funding and sponsors in order to continue making these opportunities happen and continuing to build a solid foundation for these fellowships in the future. With proper research, the goal is to design a structured stepping stone for the organization to follow in order to find adequate resources and sponsors, that are not only willing to fund the academic fellowships, but are also willing to stay connected and fund scholarships, internships, and fellowships in the future as the MIMS Institute continues to grow.
