Mission Statement
Dash for Smiles is dedicated to increasing awareness of cleft lip and palate, as well as raising funds to help families struggling with the financial difficulties of healthcare costs related to having a child affected by cleft.
About This Cause
Dash for Smiles was created when 3 moms in the Denver area experienced these challenges firsthand 15 years ago and they decided to do something to help other parents and their cleft children. Cleft lip and palate affects 1 in 700 children in the United States. Although the required surgery is covered by health insurance and state funded medical programs, crucial necessities are not and are costly. Many times babies need specialized bottles and need to be fitted with prosthetic devices, which assist them with feeding and speech. Additionally, because not every area is able to provide the specialized services for cleft affected children, many families have to travel a substantial distance to receive this care. We are hosting our 15th Annual Dash for Smiles 5K walk/run & silent auction to benefit cleft lip and palate programs in the Denver metro area. Our goal is two-fold; to raise social awareness about cleft lip and palate in addition to raising funds for clinics serving under insured patients. Over the past seven years we have donated $99,000 to the cleft clinics at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children (formerly Rose Medical Center) and The Children’s Hospital Colorado. This year our race is Sunday, July 27, 2025 at 8:00am located at Stapleton Center Park in Denver. We hope that you will consider supporting us in our mission to help children and families in need who have been affected by cleft lip and palate birth defects.
