Mission Statement

PhoScope is a think tank on light committed to facilitating change in the practice, education and critical study of lighting. Our mission is to lead the way beyond conventional grounds of lighting practice by means of design research and critical study through projects, texts and events. By exploring the social value of innovative and disruptive ecological and economical lighting solutions and bringing the knowledge of light to new audiences, PhoScope’s ground-breaking body of work scaffolds a new agency for social change and social justice in global lighting practices.

About This Cause

PhoScope created and operates the global solar lighting initiative Light Reach which leapfrogs over utility grids to bring light for work and play to underserved communities.
