Mission Statement

Peninsula Food Runners’ mission is to alleviate hunger and minimize food waste in the San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Every day, our volunteers pick up and deliver a wide variety of wonderfully prepared and non-prepared surplus food to community organizations that feed their clients in need.

About This Cause

Peninsula Food Runner is presently recovering over 3.5 million lbs of food from the landfill which equates to delivering 2.92 million meals a year to community partner organization that feed those who are in need. Presently, 40% of US food (value at $165 billion ) is being wasted and send to the landfill. This contributes to 30% of the methane gases released into the environment. California's number one waste is food. To learn more about what we do, https://vimeo.com/245062399 In 2016, Ab1383 bill was passed requiring all cities in California to recover 20% of all edible surplus from food waste in the landfills by the year 2020. To prepare for the onslaught for food donations from many of the food retailers, infrastructures are needed to be put in place so that more food can be recover, store and repurpose for further retribution of donations. Peninsula Food Runners looks to hire full time drivers, purchase refrigerations, and partner with feeding organizations in order to build and create a robust food recovering program in our communities. Peninsula Food Runners presently employs two employees who oversee the entire program. Peninsula Food Runners (PFR) software application ChowMatch uses a matching algorithm to ensure the donations are matched to recipients needs. This software also helps manages donors, volunteers and recipients and is currently utilized by gleaning groups, food recovery groups, counties, and food banks in over 700 cities across US. Peninsula Food Runners invites both the community members and corporations to help feed needy people daily. Peninsula Food Runners offer individuals opportunity to volunteer based on times that is conducive to their schedule. Most food runs take less than 1 hour to accomplish and is family friendly to participate. ChowMatch app will help track and manages all activities and provide reports for all the parties involved. Recipients can count on scheduled food run delivered by Peninsula Food Runner volunteers. The benefits are most pronounced for seniors, homeless individuals and family with limited resources. This newfound disposal income can be spend on other items such as medicine, children supplies, etc. We are grateful for your viewing and hope you will join Peninsula Food Runners either by volunteering or donating or both. Together the impact can be much greater and beyond our imagination! Gratefully yours, Maria Yap Founder and Executive Director
