Mission Statement
Eddy House works with homeless and at-risk youth to develop the life and job skills necessary for sustainable independence
About This Cause
Eddy House is the only nonprofit agency in Northern Nevada that serves any homeless and at-risk youth aged 18-24, regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or race. Eddy House primarily aims to provide age-appropriate, safe, and free shelter for youths who lack or have limited familial or social support networks as they transition to sustained, independent living. Founded in 2011 by Lynette Eddy, Eddy House opened in a small residential house in downtown Reno, with the mission “….to work with homeless and at-risk youth to develop life and job skills that lead to sustainable independence.” From 2011-2019, Eddy House served as a daytime drop-in center for these youth, providing restrooms, snacks, water, referrals, and a safe place to be during the day. Eddy House’s vision, however, was to create a full-service center for at-risk and homeless youth, expanding to offer emergency shelter, transitional housing, and wrap-around services while continuing to offer drop-in services. After successfully moving into a 24-hour facility in 2020, Eddy House established wrap-around services and programs including our Drop-In Center, Emergency Shelter, Outreach program, Community Living (CL) program, and Transitional Living (TL) program. Eddy House provides at-risk youth with a safe haven and access to a wide range of recovery-focused programs and services designed to help them attain employment, housing, and long-term stability. Our Drop-In Center and Emergency Shelter meet the basic needs of youth including a food pantry, three meals daily, emergency beds, case management, a clothing closet, and access to medical care. In addition, our clients can access holistic programs and services to improve their understanding of financial literacy, workforce training and development, transportation, education, community, and health as we prepare them to live independently. Once the immediate needs of our clients are met through our Drop-In Center and Emergency Shelter, youths are invited to apply to our residential programs. Starting with our 6-month Community Living program, residents are provided a stable, sober living environment where they have access to a kitchen, food storage, individual bed spaces with storage, and laundry services. During this period, CL residents establish bank accounts, health insurance, career or educational goals, and other life plans. Upon CL program completion, clients may be recommended for our TL program – where they live in off-campus independent, low-cost housing.
