Mission Statement

Friends of Sangamon County Animal Control is comprised of volunteers who work diligently to provide support to the adoptable dogs and cats at the Sangamon County Animal Control and Adoption Center in Springfield, Illinois. Our goal is for each adoptable pet to find their loving forever home.

About This Cause

The volunteers who comprise the Friends of Sangamon County Animal Control work closely with the dogs and cats to provide them with various services to enhance their opportunities to find their loving forever families. Volunteers not only walk the dogs and socialize the cats, but volunteers also coordinate the delivery of specific services and care for our pets. Volunteers provide training opportunities to help the dogs develop or fine tune their social skills. Volunteers also provide grooming services to help our pets rid themselves of the dirt and matting that, unfortunately, may have resulted from their prior life experiences. For the most critical cases, volunteers transport pets to local veterinarians for critical medical care. Our volunteers also provide foster care for those pets recovering from medical procedures or who do not function well in the kennel environment. Volunteers also spearhead fundraising activities in order to pay for these critical and specialized services for our pets. Still, other volunteers participate in community outreach events to educate the community and enhance awareness of animal welfare issues.
