Mission Statement
THE MIGHTY VIKING MISSION IS TO PROVIDE GOOD LIFE SKILLS, VALUES IN EDUCATION, TEAMWORK, SPORTSMANSHIP, AND BUILD SELF CONFIDENCE THROUGH PARTICIPATING IN SPORTS. SERVING THE COMMUNITY OVER 40+ YEARS! In 1980 Joe Booker, a student at ASU became the Sertoma League Red Viking head coach after seven years and three straight championships. The team moved to Ray Road where Willie B. Loving and Joe Booker founded the Jacksonville Cow-boy’s. After one season of playing independent Loving and Booker decided to rename the team. Loving, president of the team gave them the name THE MIGHTY VIKINGS and put the team in the INDEPENDENT YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE where the team currently plays. Loving resigned in 1996 and Booker took over as president of the team and he got the 501 C3 non – profit status for the team. He also purchased the land the team plays on and donated it to the team. The Mighty Vikings are well into their 30th season and are now the oldest member of the Independent Youth Football League. There are 4 levels, _ 4U/5U Coach Silas ~ 6U/8U Coach Booker ~ 10U-Coach Jessie Watson ~ 12U-Coach Jackson/Coach D And they have a Cheer Team of over fifty girls. The team targets at risk youth that live in the Jacksonville area. Note: the 2022 Coaches may change! The team travels out of state after each season where they have a bowl game, visit something educational and hold their annual banquet. Over the years they have played in Oklahoma City where there they visited the (Oklahoma Bombing Site), the team has traveled to Atlanta where they visited the (King Memorial), they’ve traveled to Memphis twice and visited the (Civil Rights Museum), the team has gone to St. Louis twice where they went to the top of the (St. Louis Arch) and they’ve gone to Dallas five times. Their last team trip was to Arlington, TX, and they were able to visit the new Dallas Cowboy’s Stadium. The Vikings season starts the middle of July thru Thanksgiving. They play six regular season games at Viking stadium, including a homecoming game. All games are available for sponsorship.
