Mission Statement

HairToStay is the first and only national nonprofit organization dedicated to helping low-income cancer patients afford scalp cooling, a treatment that can dramatically reduce chemotherapy induced hair loss. As well as subsidizing the treatment, we help to raise awareness and offer information and support to patients considering the use of scalp cooling to keep their hair during chemotherapy.

About This Cause

HairToStay is a national nonprofit organization, whose purpose is to level the playing field for scalp cooling so that low income individuals going through cancer and chemotherapy have access to an FDA-Cleared treatment that can minimize chemo-induced hair loss. We provide subsidies and support to all eligible patients throughout the country. Considered one of the most devastating and outwardly visible side effects of chemo, a study found that 8% of female patients decline potentially life-saving chemo due to fear of hair loss. FDA cleared in the US in 2015, insurance companies have been slow to provide coverage, making it inaccessible to many. HairToStay believes keeping one's hair through this traumatic life experience, shouldn't depend on socioeconomic status. We provide direct subsidies of typically $1,000 to $1,500 to those at or below 300%-400% of the FPL. Founded in 2016, at the end of 2024, we had awarded subsidies to more than 6510 patients.
