Mission Statement

Our mission is to identify, and partner with, organizations in Africa to alleviate suffering and to provide tangible care (housing, health, education, spiritual nurturing) to marginalized children to improve their life condition(s).

About This Cause

Marissa’s House Projects began as a project of Ken and Leslie McGill after the death of their daughter, Marissa. Marissa had expressed a desire to become a missionary to Africa, focusing specifically on children who had been orphaned by the AIDS crisis and poverty. After her passing in 2008, the Mr. and Mrs. McGill found their way to memorialize their daughter and continue her legacy was to build and orphanage called, Marissa’s House. After meeting with several individuals in the North Dallas area, the McGill’s were connected with an organization out of Virginia called International Cooperating Ministries (ICM). With the international expertise and connections of ICM, Marissa’s House Orphanage was finished in 2010, in Jimma, Ethiopia. Out of this one project grew the desire to continue to raise funds to build orphanages in other areas/countries in Africa, and Marissa’s House Projects was born. As our mission statement says, we seek to identify, and partner with, organizations in Africa to alleviate suffering and to provide tangible care (housing, health, education, spiritual nurturing) to marginalized children to improve their life condition(s). We began Marissa's House in Kireka, Uganda in 2013. Currently we support 96 children living in 4 different homes in Uganda as well as a tutoring/mentoring center operating out of the Ethiopia site.
