Mission Statement

The BCC cares for local climbing areas: trails, bolts, human waste mitigation, eagle monitoring and more.

About This Cause

The Boulder Climbing Community (BCC) was founded in 2010 as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization to meet a significant need to support land managers in stewarding recreation areas along the entire Front Range of Colorado. The BCC is a regional organization operating within a 500-square-mile area from Staunton State Park to Rocky Mountain National Park. The BCC operates Five Core Programs: Trail Stewardship, Anchor Replacement, Human Waste Mitigation, Eagle and Raptor Monitoring, and Advocacy. BCC’s work is critical to mitigating human impacts that are causing recreation areas to be unsustainable and accelerating climate change. We help restore biologically critical habitats and corridors to reduce ecosystem fragmentation, protect watersheds vital to clean water, create sustainable landscapes by diverting human waste and sedimentation, and restore riparian zones. Annually we organize volunteer opportunities totaling 7,000+ hours; a value of over $250,000 annually. Since we began in 2010 we have: Replaced 5,000 substandard and unsafe bolts Completed 67,000 volunteer hours; the equivalent of adding 3 full-time employees to our capacity every single year (valued at $ 2.4 million) Completed 35 trail projects valued at $2.7 million Annually monitored eagle and raptor closures in Boulder County and Rocky Mountain National Park to keep endangered wildlife safe and keep climbing areas open We distribute 3,000 human waste mitigation bags annually to keep our waterways clean We engage in policy work that protects climbing and recreation access
