About This Cause
Shirts Across America SAA Builds Homes · Leaders · Communities ___________________________________________________________________________ SAA By the Numbers Shirts Across America has sent over 4,000 high school students and volunteers to build homes in New Orleans and Mississippi. SAA has fully funded 18 homes through donations and time worked by volunteers. Our Volunteers have worked on over 200 homes/projects in the region. ___________________________________________________________________________ Shirts Across America provides high school students and young adults an opportunity to become leaders as they volunteer to build homes in poverty stricken communities affected by natural disasters. Our volunteers are exposed to unique and diverse cultures through our immersion trip experiences. After working with our organization, many participants return home empowered to make a difference in their own communities. Shirts Across America offers the Titans Core Team Leadership Program. Our Core Team members work with SAA throughout the year. We empower these high school students to create amazing hands on experiences for the peers, parents and school administrators. Together they build homes while being exposed to several skills throughout the year. Our Core Team develops skills including: event production, peer mentorship, and construction knowledge. Their responsibilities also include education of trip participants and the general public on the current challenges faced by the people of the Gulf Coast. While in New Orleans, these students act as the primary liaison between adult chaperones and their fellow high school volunteers.
