About This Cause

POST PANDEMIC PROTOCOLS AND PROCESSES - BACK TO NORMAL The Main Place did not allow Covid-19 to impede our services past our initial shock. Our suspension of operations only lasted twelve days. We continued to supply a variety of items to our clients and replicated our services to those affected by the shutdown, while broadening our geographic area to even more that are in need because of the ramifications caused by the virus. Single moms, large families with multiple bread winners, unaccompanied youth, victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse, lost jobs and/or housing as a result of the virus. No job, no money, no housing, no food, no needed items - engulfed them with despair, guilt, loneliness and desperation. They needed diapers, wipes, baby products; feminine products for themselves and their teen girls; everyday health and hygiene products; clothing for their growing kids and themselves; books, games, craft projects for their scared and bored children; laundry detergent and so much more that we have to share with them. They needed to be greeted by a smiling face with kind words, and served with humility and love. They needed to be offered lovely clothing rather than another's cast offs, along with necessities for everyday living and non essentials to make them feel good and worthy. The Main Place met their needs. Due to the pandemic, we were not able to provide our ultimate shopping experience, so we initiated Parcel Pick-up Days. We asked for our clients' sizes, pulled items from our inventory, and made appointments for them to pick up the parcels - all the while practicing physical distancing, masking and sanitizing. We had to think outside the box, so on April 2, 2020, we invited some of our clients to come by to pick up diapers, wipes, hygiene, food boxes and more. In June, after 3 successful mini pickup events, we initiated monthly Super Saturdays for our clients and used social media to invite those who didn’t know where to go for needed resources. Our offerings varied, but included a mix of diapers, wipes, new jeans for the family, licensed logoed t-shirts, boxer briefs, panties, coats, shoes, hygiene, new bath and bedding and sundry. The success was unbelievable. In August, 2020, we partnered with a certified food handler and began including the distribution of 21K to 37K pounds of food each event. The need was great. The need was real. Our annual number of clients, pre Covid, was between 700 and 1000. In 2020, we served 10,872 (includes the 1300 self-evacuees of Hurricane Laura to whom we donated 5000 new articles of clothing, diapers, wipes, hygiene items, and more.) We have paperwork on every client and their entire family that backs up these unbelievable numbers. The Main Place collaborates with other nonprofits and locates needed resources for our clients. We are blessed, even during the Pandemic, to have many volunteers on a regular weekly and monthly basis. Even since the pandemic has ended, the ramifications are still affecting many and will for a very long time. In 2023 we have gone back to referrals only and ultimate shopping experiences for our clients so that we can personally engage, uplift, and impact their lives. Due to the world wide Pandemic, recession and inflation, as the numbers continue to be high, so does the cost to serve their needs. We are purchasing necessities every week as if money grows on trees. We covet your support to meet the needs with funding and prayer.
