Mission Statement
OUR MISSION: To move young people and nurture lifelong, God-centered agents of change.
About This Cause
The Muslim American society (MAS) is a dynamic charitable, religious, social, cultural, and an educational membership-based grassroots movement. Focusing on personal development of individuals through a comprehensive Islamic educational curriculum, MAS promotes active involvement in communities across the U.S by providing opportunities for community service, interfaith initiatives, youth programs, and civic engagement. Over the past two decades, MAS has expanded to more than 50 chapters across the United States, including New York. The MAS Youth Center (MAS YC) is one of 7 MAS NY centers and the first-ever Muslim youth center in the country. Though MAS YC aims to provide resources and support for all Muslims in our community, we focus primarily on filling the gap of a safe and welcoming environment for Muslim youth and empowering the younger generation of Muslims with all the tools they need to be successful in this life and the hereafter. The first Muslim youth center in America Imagine a world where youth of all ages look forward to going to the masjid. A place created specifically for youth and led by youth. Where you can walk in and find a youth giving the Friday Jumuah, a youth sheikh mentoring teens, a youth imam leading the five daily prayers, and even youth on the masjid board. A place where there are multiple youth lounges for both brothers AND sisters, stocked with comfortable couches, flat screens, mini fridges and games, where young people can hang seven days a week. Where no matter what life stage a young person is in – a child, a teen, a student, a young professional, or a newlywed – there are a long list of customized programs and services ranging from sports to camps to counseling that support that young person on their journey to becoming God-centered, agents of change. That world exists at the MAS Youth Center. Our center was established in 2001 with the aim of creating spaces, programs, and resources that allow the Muslim youth community in our city to thrive in every aspect of their lives. We believe a masjid is more than just a place for prayer. It’s a place that young Muslims should consider a second home. Whatever age or life stage our youth are currently at, our center will create a safe space and cater to their needs. Our team aims to achieve these goals through tireless planning, organizing, volunteering, and efforts.
