Mission Statement
The Sunny Horse Foundation has the specific purpose to maintain and operate a foundation to alleviate the suffering of and provide support for abandoned, mistreated, unwanted or distressed horses: to provide public education and outreach to proven equine abuse and neglect. The horse continues to prove a valuable partner to humans in the woThis prld of animal therapy. Our foundation is dedicated to bringing the horse to humans to create that healing bond.
About This Cause
The Sunny Horse Foundation began in 2012. Our foundations supports 3 horses in the current program. All horses are rescue horses. All 3 horses work 1 to 5 days/week with partnering with humans to create a bond of healing. We currently have 2 classes a week dedicated to Veterans. These Veterans have found us through local advertising and several Organizations dedicated to ongoing support and healing for veterans. This includes veterans who have beeen homeless, those suffering from PTSD and a sense of loss after discharge. The Veteran and the horse learn to work together in a skill-based program to accomplish a task. They have a shared purpose. The horse lives in the moment. The horse does not judge. The horse always looks forward to the next task at hand. This focus assists the veteran to also be in the moment and move forward. The Sunny Horse Foundation also works with seniors in memory care facilities and foster children. The 3 horses are trained as therapy horses and can easily adjust to unfamiliar situations and remain steady and calm. The Veterans Equine Program is run by a trained and experience instructors. Because the work is weekly and uses a large volunteer base on the Thode property, insurance had to be amended and updated to cover liability. This program is put together with thoughtful and careful planning. All 3 horses need to be available and the training that the participants receive needs to be specific and safe. This program is free to all veterans. We believe and depend on the generous support of Benevity and other programs who are grateful for the time and dedication of our Veterans to this country.
