Mission Statement
Since 2015, Solar for All has installed over 115kW of solar electric (photovoltaic) systems on 30 affordable homes for low-income homeowners in Oregon: Medford and the Greater Portland Area, and Clark County in SW Washington. Each system saves families ~$500 annually on their utility bills over the 20 year life of the panels! We see this as our “three for one” solution for multiple challenges: • We enable local solar installation jobs by creating additional demand for solar panels. • We break the cycle of poverty by reducing monthly utility bills for families who qualify for affordable housing assistance. • We reduce America’s reliance on the global carbon economy by increasing local renewable energy generation.
About This Cause
Solar for All is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, with a mission to fund the installation of solar power systems on affordable housing projects in Oregon and SW Washington. For families living in affordable housing, their utility bill can be 3-4x higher (as a percent of income) than for the average–income family in the U.S. Solar for All makes affordable housing more affordable by funding the installation of solar power systems at no cost to the homeowner. Energy bills are reduced by ~$500 annually. Low income families are able to allocate those savings toward food, education costs/savings, unexpected bills/repairs, etc. We fight climate change by reducing the carbon footprints of affordable housing developments. Each installation avoids ~3000 lb CO2 emission from fossil fuels annually. We support local jobs and Oregon’s renewable economy by purchasing SolarWorld panels manufactured in Hillsboro, Oregon and partnering with local contractors to complete the installs. Solar for All completed our first install on an affordable home in March, 2015. As of November 2021 we have installed over 115 kilowatts of renewable solar energy generation across 30 affordable homes in Portland, Gresham, Hillsboro, and Medford, Oregon; Vancouver and Washougal, Washington. Our affordable housing partners include: Community Vision, Inc.; Proud Ground; and Rogue Valley Habitat for Humanity.
