Mission Statement
Denver Volunteer Fire Association serves Denver Iowa and surrounding communities in fire prevention, life safety, and asset protection. We respond to fire, vehicle and other types of accidents within the city and the surrounding rural area.
About This Cause
Denver Volunteer Fire Association (Denver Fire for short) consists of 20+ firefighters and officers. The department is 100% volunteer, with no paid employees. The minimum national certification for all firefighters on the department include Fire Fighter I, and hazardous Materials Operations. Several members of the Denver Fire Department have additional certifications, including Fire Fighter II, EMT, Hazardous Materials Technician, Fire Instructor. All firefighters are kept up to date on CPR and Hazardous Materials Operations certifications. Operations are headquartered in one building in Denver, IA at 230 S. Transit St. The department has two pumping engines, two tankers with pumping capability, one heavy rescue, two grass fire pickup trucks with foam capabilities, and one trailer containing shoring and grain bin rescue equipment. We serve the city of Denver Iowa, which is a small town of roughly 1800 population North of Waterloo, Iowa. In addition to serving the city proper area, we have several housing additions that fall in our fire protection district. Our fire prevention district covers area within two counties (Bremer, and Blackhawk). The covered area is roughly defined as follows: South of 230th st, North of the City of Waterloo border, East of Streeter St, West of Piedmont Ave. Denver Fire belongs to the Bremer County Fire Association, which includes several neighboring fire departments. We perform in mutual aid capacity for Janesville, Waverly, Tripoli, Readlyn, and others. Vehicular incidents are a major component of the calls we respond to, with US highway 63 running directly through Denver. Denver Fire spends time every month performing regular equipment checks and maintenance, holding department meetings, and executing training. Denver Fire also actively supports the community in other ways, including spending a significant amount of time every year with community schools on fire prevention education, familiarization with school and local business buildings for incident pre-planning, participating in local parades in Denver and surrounding towns, supporting the Denver Breakaway Days summer celebration on standby for fireworks, supervising controlled burns of grassland and structures, assisting Denver Ambulance Service when requested for manpower.
