Gearin' Up Bicycle's mission is to create career development opportunities and teach essential workplace skills to youth from underserved communities, while encouraging cycling as a practical, healthy means of transportation. Gearin' Up seeks to empower young adults with professional skills and opportunity to reach their full potential while providing Washington, DC residents with affordable bicycles and community-building events.
About This Cause
Gearin' Up Bicycles operates a bicycle shop and youth training programs, including: +recycling, refurbishing and selling donated bicycles at affordable prices; +repairing community customer bicycles; +training paid youth interns as excellent bicycle mechanics and shop staff; +offering on-site and off-site workshops to youth in bicycle maintenance and repair, including "build-a-bike" programs; +partnering with schools and community groups to train youth in bike mechanics.
