About This Cause

The GRYD Foundation (Gang Reduction & Youth Development) is a 501c3 public charity that collaborates with the City of Los Angeles and other community partners to strengthen community resilience by fighting against the influence of gangs while promoting positive youth development. Our mission is to create safer, healthier and stronger communities in Los Angeles. Since our inception in 2012, our primary focus has been Summer Night Lights (SNL), a program that promotes peace, positive activities, and healthy outcomes for the residents of 32 communities in Los Angeles that are heavily impacted by gang violence, poverty, and unemployment. We believe that no one should be defined or limited based on their zip code. While Summer Night Lights has been extremely successful in these communities by creating safe spaces for youth and families to engage in sports, recreational, and artistic activities throughout the summer months, there has been a clear need to offer year-round support. In 2015, The GRYD Foundation launched the Youth Squad 360 initiative, offering year-round, 360-degree wrap around services to the youth who are hired to work in the SNL summer program. Youth Squad 360 provides case management services and resource connections designed to help youth as they pursue their academic, career, and health and wellness goals.
