Mission Statement

Founded in 1867, Morehouse College is the nation’s largest liberal arts college for men. Historically, Morehouse has conferred bachelor degrees on more African-American men than any other college or university in the United States. Located in Atlanta, Georgia, the college offers degrees in 26 majors in three academic divisions.

About This Cause

One of the founding beliefs of the the Houston Morehouse Alumni Association (HMAA) is that sometimes all it takes to change the world is a little support. Since our founding in 1977 we have been determined to make substantial life-changing impact within the Greater Houston region and beyond. The core of our efforts is to bring our chapter's fresh ideas and passion to the range of activities we’re involved in throughout the city, and exude an unparalleled level of excellence that displays the conviction behind our beliefs. Focused on increasing equity and access to Higher Education for African-American Men, the HMAA has raised hundreds of thousands through scholarship specific fundraising programming over the past decade. Rising tuition cost make it hard for students, particularly of color, to afford college. And, HBCUs provide a stable and nurturing environment for those most at risk of not entering or completing college: low-income, first-generation college students. Many of these students are academically underprepared for college, yet they're precisely the students that the country most needs to obtain college degrees. Our local Chapter provides scholarships for students to attend Morehouse College, while also providing a platform to highlight and celebrate Alumni and positive African-American men in the community.
