Mission Statement
We are committed to providing a “Safe Place” for community outreach, continued education and recreation among the diverse communities of Kensington, Philadelphia and its surrounding neighborhoods. Serving as that safe and welcoming space, CCV embraces and celebrates its community with particular regard for nurturing the potential of its youth, senior, and immigrant populations. Guided by the core values of hope, hospitality, community spirit, gospel values, preferential option for the poor, and acknowledgement and promotion of the dignity of each person. The Community Center at Visitation provides services that respond to the needs and hopes of a diverse neighborhood. In the previous years, CCV has served over 5,000 people through free services at the Center. These community members come in need of the programs and services that the CCV provides, as well as the services of local partner organizations. The Center continues to evolve and grow in its constituency and programming each year, responding to changing neighborhood needs.
About This Cause
The goal of CCV is to be a light that attracts and accompanies people of all ethnic, linguistic, and faith backgrounds. Each year we have more patrons and as a result our facility is open longer and we need more support staff and volunteers. PROGRAMS i. Adult Education ESL (English as a Second Language), Adult Sewing Classes, and Basic Adult Literacy are our core programs we also offer tutoring, resume and basic education services. ii. Children and Youth Youth mentoring, summer camps, after school programs are only some of the ways CCV accompanies local youth. iii. Community Outreach Multiple free community events such as free turkey and toy giveaways, community meetings, movie nights, nonprofit partnerships, health fairs and festivals help form meaningful relationships with the community. iv. Nutrition Program Our food pantry feeds on average 85 families and distributes anywhere from 1,000 to 1,500 pounds of food per week. Our supermarket model allows participants to register, get vouchers and shop for the items they need. v. Sports and Recreation Basketball, soccer and volleyball leagues and open gym times, aerobics and healthy lifestyle programs at the CCV help keep the local community active and fit. 70% of the children in our community are obese. We also provide basketball and volleyballs skills clinics for boys and girls. vii. Job Training We offer job training programs in conjunction with our local partners. viii. Wellness Center The program is run by volunteer registered nurses and focuses on Women’s health and well-being. The weekly program includes screening and referral services in addition to spiritual counseling. We fulfill our mission by providing all our services for FREE to the impoverished constituents we service. We treat all participants with dignity and respect regardless of their situation and our programs evolve based on the community needs.
