Mission Statement
A 100% volunteer, grassroots, non-profit advocating for, and providing services to, the under-served student populations of Buford Hwy area of DeKalb County, Georgia known as, "Cross Keys."
About This Cause
The Cross Keys Foundation had its start as a grass-roots volunteer effort in early 2009. A few community members became aware of the neglected conditions at Cross Keys area public schools and decided it was time for a change. Upon discovering the underlying reasons for the neglect the volunteers realized there were fundamental challenges affecting all Cross Keys attendance area schools and decided to do something about it. The Foundation started formally as a volunteer sub-committee of the DeKalb County Public Schools Foundation, Inc (DCPSF) in December 2009. Operating under the auspices of DCPSF, the Foundation served as a fundraising source for a Cross Keys High School Scholarship Program and as a general advocate for the attendance area schools. The DCPSF ceased to operate in 2012 and the sub-committee volunteers incorporated on May 25th, 2012 as Cross Keys Foundation, Inc. to continue support efforts for the seven schools of the Cross Keys High School attendance area plus theme, magnet and charter schools serving the area. These are Cross Keys High School, Sequoyah Middle, PATH Academy, Oakcliff Elementary, Cary Reynolds Elementary, Dresden Elementary, Montclair Elementary, and Woodward Elementary. The mission of the Cross Keys Foundation is to promote “Every Opportunity for Every Child” in the Cross Keys area of North DeKalb by direct classroom support, scholarships for graduating seniors, special projects, and advocacy.
