Mission Statement

Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

About This Cause

The mission of Habitat for Humanity Chicago is to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope throughout the city of Chicago. As an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, our organization seeks to connect individuals and families with sustainable housing opportunities through new home construction, existing home repair and weatherization projects, homeownership education services, and asset-based community development initiatives. Habitat Chicago's vision is a core belief that the economic security, health advantages, and educational attainment of a stable, affordable home should be an opportunity for all. Stable housing removes barriers to opportunity, success, and health. Better, affordable living conditions lead to improved health, stronger childhood development, and the ability and financial flexibility to make forward-looking choices. About Habitat for Humanity Chicago Habitat Chicago is committed to the revitalization of high-potential neighborhoods in Chicago, creating affordable housing opportunities and investing in Black homeownership. Our various programs work to close the wealth gap in Chicago communities and to ensure the long-term financial, health, educational, and social benefits of affordable housing through in-depth financial literacy education, new home construction, and neighborhood improvement projects. Since its inception, Habitat Chicago has created over 120 long-term housing solutions for Chicago residents, from new home construction to home repairs and more. In recent years, we have adjusted our impact goals and taken a more targeted approach to neighborhood strategy, consolidating our efforts into two key neighborhoods and three key programs. All are welcome Habitat for Humanity Chicago has an open-door policy: All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. In short, Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion. As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith. About Habitat for Humanity International Founded in Americus, Georgia, USA, in 1976, Habitat for Humanity today operates around the globe and has helped build, renovate and repair more than 600,000 decent, affordable houses sheltering more than 3 million people.
