SERVE OUR WILLING WARRIORS

Haymarket, Virginia, 20169-2126 United States

Mission Statement

Willing Warriors is a privately-funded, volunteer- and community-supported nonprofit organization. We provide encouragement and non-medical programs that positively affect the well-being, recuperation, and lives of military service members and veterans (Warriors) who are wounded, ill, injured, or recovering from service-related injuries. Our program is also available to Public Safety/First Responder personnel. Our partners include Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, other military facilities, Veteran support organizations, businesses, corporations, churches, youth groups, and other public and private organizations. Our programs include hospital visits, summer BBQs, Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas gift-giving, community fundraisers, and other events honoring warriors. Our signature program is the Warrior Retreat at Bull Run (the Retreat).

About This Cause

The Retreat includes the 11,000-square-foot home (Lang House), the 4,500-square-foot PenFed Foundation Home, and the 6,000-square-foot Grand Lodge, all of which are ADA-accessible homes on 37 acres in the shadow of the historic Bull Run Mountains in Haymarket, Virginia. The Retreat offers free, five-day respite stays during which Warriors, their families and caregivers can temporarily escape hospital settings or other day-to-day demands to relax, rejuvenate, and reconnect with their families and support networks. The Retreat hosts only one family at a time in each of our homes and the Warriors incur no cost. Warrior testimonials confirm the Retreat’s value. They include how the stay helped them and their family return to their medical recovery program or daily routines feeling refreshed, re-energized, and more inspired to succeed. They also share how the downtime sparked breakthroughs in struggles with post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injuries, saved marriages, strengthened family relations, and inspired them to rebuild the lives they wish to live. Several warriors also revealed how their stay diminished suicidal thoughts or impulses. To learn more about our programs or to donate visit www.willingwarriors.org.
