Mission Statement
Code.org® is an education innovation nonprofit dedicated to the vision that every student in every school has the opportunity to learn computer science as part of their core K-12 education. We expand access to computer science in schools, with a focus on increasing participation by young women and students from other underrepresented groups. The leading provider of K-12 computer science curriculum in the largest school districts in the United States, Code.org also organizes the annual Hour of Code campaign, which has engaged more than 15% of all students in the world.
About This Cause
Code.org's vision is that every student in every school has the opportunity to learn computer science, just like biology, chemistry, or algebra. To support our goal, we do work across the education spectrum: designing curriculum, training teachers, partnering with school districts, helping change government policies, supporting international partners, and marketing to break stereotypes. Code.org focuses outreach efforts in urban and rural areas where getting access to computer science education is especially challenging. Curriculum: Available at no cost in over 67 languages and used in 180+ countries, Code.org is the largest provider of CS curriculum globally, and our courses are recommended by 99% of surveyed teachers. Designed to be engaging for students of all levels, Code.org courses span a K-12 computer science pathway. Professional Development: Code.org offers teachers hands-on workshops and online support. We prepare teachers from all backgrounds to teach computer science, with thousands attending our workshops every month. Code.org professional learning programs also include sessions on how to recruit without bias and create positive, accessible classroom environments. Advocacy: Supporting the grassroots movement led by teachers, Code.org works with state and district policymakers to include computer science as a fundamental part of the K-12 education system.
