Mission Statement

The Wilson Crew Boosters is organized to give DC public school students the opportunity to row and compete at the highest level of youth rowing.

About This Cause

The Wilson Crew Boosters is a non-profit, 501(c)3 that supports the only competitive rowing program in the DC Public School system. The team provides educational opportunity to students of all socio-economic backgrounds in DC schools, including eligible out-of-boundary students from underprivileged areas of the city. Wilson Crew was founded in 1985 and team is the oldest and only public school rowing program in the city. With more than 80 athletes, split equally between our men and women’s teams, Wilson Crew is one of the high school’s largest teams. In addition, Wilson Crew operates a recreational training program for middle schoolers which expands the size of our community. Wilson Crew provides DC youth the ability to become active, involved and passionate about one of the oldest and most respected sports in the world. Through the sport of rowing, we strive to teach middle and high school students hard work, discipline, accountability, teamwork, and commitment. As a club sport, we must raise our own funds to operate the team. We count on support from individuals and businesses to keep this incredible team and community thriving. We strive to make every sponsor proud of our work and our mission. The team, entering our 35th year of competition, competes at a very high level – including winning the boys national championship at the 2019 Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) Championship. Rowers have leveraged their success on the water to receive admittance, and in some cases a full ride, to the country’s top universities, including the US Naval Academy, Harvard, Boston University, Temple, University of Wisconsin, Tufts, Syracuse, Penn, Smith College, and others. Crew is an expensive sport that can be daunting to high school families in the District of Columbia. It costs roughly $2,500 each year to send one athlete to regattas. The student-athletes also have individual fundraising goals to help the team meet our operating budget. The Boosters’ goal is to welcome any athlete to Wilson Crew, regardless of ability to pay.
