Mission Statement
Through lacrosse we support Oakland Public School students in becoming healthy, confident, and self empowered youth who effectively navigate systems, overcome challenges, and achieve their education and life goals.
About This Cause
Mission: The mission of the Oakland Lacrosse Club is to enrich the lives of Oakland youth by promoting physical and mental growth, increasing opportunities and highlighting positive images and connections in the Oakland community through the sport of lacrosse. Long Term: 1) Create a 4-12th grade pipeline that provides a community of support for our players 2) Help all players to graduate high school and help 90% enroll higher education. 3) Be financially sustainable to extend program impact to more Oakland youth. Approach & Model: The Oakland Lacrosse Club is an education and sports based youth development program that implements a 360 approach that involves academic support, nutritional education, mentoring, and life skills education. We provide year round activities and opportunities to participate in youth sports for many who would otherwise have few options. Team Experience: Teaching essential life skills such as teamwork, persistence, resiliency and positive communication Academic Counseling: Track all players grades and provide one v one counseling for middle school transition to high school and counsel high school players on post high school college and career pathways. . Nutrition Education: Healthy snacks at every practice, game, study hall, and workshops that focus on how to fuel an athlete’s body Lifelong Learning: Trips to plays, museums, and college campuses, and connecting players with enrichment classes to extend learning beyond the classroom. Socioemotional: Understand and manage emotions, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
