A non-profit located in NW Georgia working to build a home that will be used as a respite and retreat for families that have disabled and/or seriously ill children.
About This Cause
The Sweet Cocoon, Inc. was created in 2012 after the death of Marlowe Treglown, the oldest daughter of Amanda Bohannon, the foundation's Executive Director. Marlowe was diagnosed with Sanfilippo Syndrome at the age of 4 years old and passed away in 2012 at the age of 18 years old. Having taken care of a disabled child for years, Amanda understands the daily struggles that families that have disabled or seriously ill children experience on a daily basis. The house The Sweet Cocoon,Inc. is trying to build will be fully handicap accessible and have some fabulous features such as a large activity room for movies, karaoke and various other activities. The house is also designed with an indoor year round pool that can not only be used for therapy but also for games and activities such as dive-in movie nights. For 3-4 days, families will come to The Sweet Cocoon and enjoy a vacation of sorts. For at least a little while, they won't have to worry about the mountain of hospital bills they don't know how they will ever pay, or the terrible diagnosis and treatments their child must face, and the uncertainties that surround every aspect of their daily life. The plan also calls for a property big enough to have a small petting zoo of sorts so that families have plenty of animals to interact with. We'll also work with local groups to incorporate lots or music and art into our activities. One night we'll even let mom and dad go on a date all by themselves!
