Mission Statement
This corporation has been formed for charitable purposes, to • Support educational goals of Ananda College, Colombo, Sri Lanka (“College”) and, in particular, provide assistance to needy students pursuing their educational programs in Sri Lanka and USA. • Work with School Old Boys Association in Sri Lanka in furtherance of the above educational goals and charity requirements. • Facilitate communication among former students and staff of the School alumni living outside Sri Lanka, especially West Coast of USA, in order to organize events and programs in furtherance of the above educational goals.
About This Cause
Since 2012, ACOBAWC, USA has provided financial assistance to students in Sri Lanka. Financial Assistance is provided in following forms: a. Need-Based Scholarships – More than 30% of the students in Sri Lanka are below poverty level. ACOBAWC, USA, thrives to identify needy students and provide them with a monthly allowance to support the basic needs for food, clothing and other educational needs. Currently, Organization provides 20 need-based scholarships. Our objective is to increase this to 100 scholarships. b. Performance-Based Scholarships – Primary objective is to enhance the level of education and to motivate students in maintaining higher standards from Grades 5 through 11. Students need to achieve over 92nd percentile of annual aggregate to obtain the competitive scholarship. Currently 10 need-based scholarships are provided for each grade level to a total of 60 scholarships. Our current goal is to increase this to 96 scholarships. c. Basic Infrastructure Development – Basic sanitary facilities are lagging for students in Sri Lanka. Our organization has constructed basic sanitary facilities to support 600 students, with a project cost of US$ 22,000.00. The current objective is to provide two more such facilities and we are planning to raise US $ 50,000.00 towards this objective. d. Development of Sports Facilities – ACOBAWC, USA believes sports and recreation should be a fundamental part of development of children hand in hand with educational goals in producing more all-round humans for the future. Therefore, Organization has picked one sport and have supported it from year 2017, working with children of 12-14 years of age. Currently the organization spends US $ 2,000 annually towards the development of rugby. Objective is to increase the contribution to US $ 5,000.00 annually.
