About This Cause

The Audacity Performing Arts Project is located in Silicon Valley and serves Title 1 schools primarily in East San Jose (Alum Rock Union Elementary, Franklin McKinley School District) and in Campbell, CA. * Currently serving 16 schools (primarily grades K-6) * This school year, 2021/2022, projected to serve 3000+ of students in person In September 2021, Audacity elevated Rosalinda Sanchez to Executive Director. Rosalinda’s recent experience was with the School of Arts and Culture at the Mexican Heritage Plaza where she served as Arts Education Program Manager. Audacity founder, Louis Stone-Collonge, has shifted responsibilities to Development Director. Audacity’s current three member board consists of a Labor/Workman’s Comp attorney, a former, experienced higher education professional and an Arts Therapist. In 2012, Audacity was founded as an after school musical theatre company growing to a production schedule of 21 musicals per year and serving 600 students by 2019. Today in the 2021/2022 school year, due to masking requirements, social distancing requirements and parental hesitation to allow participation, Audacity has emphasized musical theater productions which are largely on hold. As a result, the pandemic has compelled Audacity to pivot into focusing on arts education programming (in school, after school and during summer). In response to the pandemic and the inability to mount productions, Rosalinda has lead Audacity’s pivot to arts education where the offerings have expanded to include: Dance (hip hop, salsa, etc.) Dance (Folklorico) Music (salsa, ukulele) Documentary Filmmaking Podcasting Visual Arts Improv Theatrecraft Moving forward, Audacity will begin to reestablish and expand the after school musical theatre program and expand the reach of arts education programming. The primary geographic focus of Audacity’s work is currently in Downtown and East San Jose within San Jose Unified, Alum Rock and Franklin McKinley school districts (including the Mayfair Neighborhood of San Jose). These neighborhoods are largely Latinx families (60-80%) and the schools are underperforming Title 1 low income (82%) with sizable populations of English language learners (30-60%) who qualify for free and reduced meals. These neighborhoods are suburban and working class.
